Hello!
My name is Chun-Hung Shih. I'm currently a third-year PhD student in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania.
My research interests lie in syntax, the syntax-semantics interface, and morphosyntax. I'm interested in argument structure, voice, case, and non-verbal predication, particularly the Phillipine/Indonesian-type voice system, predicative possessives, and adverbial verbs. I focus on Formosan languages, Austronesian languages spoken in Taiwan, and I'm doing fieldwork mainly on Budai Rukai and also on Katripul Puyuma. My advisor is Julie Anne Legate, and I also work with Florian Schwarz, Matthew Hewett, and David Embick. I'm affiliated with the Penn Syntax Lab and the Penn Meaning Lab.
Before coming to UPenn, I completed my B.A. in Foreign Languages and Literatures and M.A. in Linguisitics at the National Taiwan University, where I started working on Budai Rukai under the guidance of Li-May Sung.
I was born and raised in Taiwan, and I speak Taiwan Mandarin natively and Taiwan Southern Min as a heritage speaker.
